Daniele, Luca and “le Silvie” arrived to the Sur after 18 hours trip (…’na passeggiata di salute… you can translate it with: a healthy walk). Temperature is as perfect as it should be: 77 F. The city smells of Lime and Jacaranda trees, that this year apparently bloomed incredibly. We rented a little apt in la Recoleta, in Avenida Pres. Uriburu, just a couple of blocks from the Recoleta Cemetery and after a fast shower we are all ready to go for a walk.
Here is my little Argentinian boy.
Parque de la Recoleta
Humongous Magnolia trees
The Centro Cultural Recoleta) is an exhibition and cultural events centre located in the barrio of Recoleta, Buenos Aires, Argentina. It holds sculptures and exhibitions, as well as concerts and artistic presentations and workshops of diverse types. In September/October 2006 it held the wildly successful onedotzero festival attracting over 20,000 people in 3 days for installations, live performances, screenings and music.
Cemeterio de la Recoleta: over 6,400 statues, sarcophagi, coffins and crypts commemorate some of Argentina’s most celebrated sons and daughters, not least Eva Peron, in this labyrinthine city of the dead.Once the orchard of the adjoining Basílica Nuestra Señora del Pilar – the glistening white church that overlooks the Plaza Francia – the land became the city’s first public cemetery in 1822. Its layout was designed by French engineer Próspero Catelin, who also designed the city’s Metropolitan Cathedral in the Plaza de Mayo. It is an eerily beautiful and tranquil place, with shadowed walkways and towering marble mausoleums rich in art deco, art nouveau, baroque and neo-gothic architectural styles, masonic symbols and powerful religious iconography. Over 90 of its tombs are listed as national historical monuments. The space is perfect for Luca, no cars, everybody is already dead….he can barely destroy something…
Eva Peron Grave
Luca and a Brazilian girl at Basílica Nuestra Señora del Pilar. He just decided to hold her hands and walk around with her, she agreed.
You are now a Jesus warrior…
…behind bars.
And a Hare Krishna concert in the Park the same night.
