Rector Palace, Gradac Park, and beach time – more – Day 2

Let’s start with the Rector Palace, as it is too hot to laying on the beach quite yet.

The Rector’s Palace (CroatianKnežev dvorItalianPalazzo dei Rettori) is a palace in the city of Dubrovnik that used to serve as the seat of the Rector of the Republic of Ragusa between the 14th century and 1808.[1] It was also the seat of the Minor Council and the state administration. Furthermore, it housed an armoury, the powder magazine, the watch house and a prison.

The rector’s palace was built in the Gothic style, but it also has Renaissance and Baroque elements, harmoniously combining these elements.[1]

Danče beach is located on a rocky open part of the coastline near Dubrovnik and it is one of the most popular and oldest beaches in Dalmatia and Dubrovnik. This beach has a deep, clean and a little colder sea than other places so it is not recommended for children and those who are not strong swimmers.

Right on top of Placa Danče we stop for a stroll in the shadow in the Gradac Park, a Mediterranean park from which you will have yet another striking view both of Dubrovnik and of Lovrijenac fortress. This is another location for the filming of Game of Thrones; in particular it is the location of the Purple Wedding. At the wedding King Joffrey is poisoned and Tyrion Lannister, is arrested.
